Reliable Fake News. "Shitty Onion"
Darnell Tyler is asking the internet community to donate $25 to pay for his lunch at the Double Hook Diner in downtown Austin. The page was launched shortly after he ordered a double cheeseburger with ketchup and onion, with an order of chili cheese fries and a Sprite on the side.
“I figured if ‘Veronica Mars’ can earn over $4 million, I can at least get $25,” Tyler said. “That’s only 25 people donating $1 each.”
Kickstarter is a crowd-sourcing web site that allows users to build a project page, then solicit for donations in order to complete the project.
Tyler recorded a video on his phone of him detailing exactly what the money was for and how it would be used. He even set ‘perks’ for certain donation amounts.
“If someone donates $5, I’ll give them a call and say, ‘Hey, thanks!’. If someone donates the full $25, I’ll save a few of the fries for them,” Tyler explained. “If I go over my goal, I might get a cookie for dessert.”
While Kickstarter is usually reserved for new inventions and art projects, Tyler isn’t worried.
“People that say eating isn’t an art-form,” Tyler said, “have never seen me eat.”
