FB User Memorializes Chi Cheng By Posting Song He Didn’t Record

ImageMINNEAPOLIS, MN – A Facebook user and Deftones fan tried to commemorate the passing of bassist Chi Cheng by posting a Youtube link to a song Cheng had nothing to do with.

Chi Cheng, bassist for Deftones, passed away Saturday after spending over four years in a coma. He had recently shown some signs on improvement. Facebook user Tommy Fallon was ‘heartbroken’ when he heard of Cheng’s passing, so he decided to post a link to a Youtube video of a Deftones song.

The song, “Swerve City”, was originally released on 2012’s Koi No Yokan, the seventh studio album by the famous band Deftones. The album was recorded and released while Chi Cheng was in his coma, making for a memorable flub by a fan who claims he’s ‘the biggest fan of The Deftones since White Pony‘.

“Oh, yeah, I guess you’re right,” Fallon said when given notice of his mistake. “I should have used ‘You’ve Seen the Butcher’ from Diamond Eyes.” Diamond Eyes, the sixth studio album by Deftones, was also written and recorded after the accident that put Cheng into the coma.

Fallon claims to have been following Cheng’s health since ‘like 2005’, despite Cheng only entering the coma after an accident on November 4, 2008.

“I knew he wasn’t on Yokan, but I like that song. It sounds like a Chi song,” Fallon added. “Are you sure he didn’t record it, maybe when he woke up for a few minutes?”

Cheng was 42.
